PRP by body region

PRP for tendons and muscle injuries

Usefulness varies considerably between tendons, injury types and stages of progression. It should not replace load adjustment or a strengthening programme.

PRP by body region
01

When it may be considered

  • Selected chronic tendinopathies.
  • Muscle injuries with specific indications.
  • Ultrasound-guided treatment when it improves precision and safety.
02

Your recovery, step by step

A medical assessment helps establish how PRP may benefit you and integrate it into a treatment and rehabilitation plan tailored to your needs. The aim is to improve your symptoms and your ability to take part in the activities that matter to you, while monitoring your progress.

03

Every tendon and every muscle injury is different

The location, course and type of injury determine the indication. The result of a study on the elbow or knee does not demonstrate effectiveness in the Achilles tendon, hamstrings or any other tissue.

04

Evidence specific to the Achilles tendon

A trial involving 240 patients with chronic midportion tendinopathy found no improvement in function with a PRP injection compared with a sham procedure at six months. This finding calls for caution when making promises about recovery.

05

Returning to sport requires restored capacity

The decision should take account of the diagnosis, load tolerance, strength and goals. An injection does not replace progressive exercise or justify an earlier return to competition without a functional assessment.
